309 stainless steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy that is known for its excellent oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength. It contains a higher percentage of chromium and nickel compared to 304 stainless steel, which enhances its ability to withstand elevated temperatures and aggressive environments. The "S" in 309S denotes a lower carbon content, which further improves its resistance to sensitization and intergranular corrosion, making it suitable for applications where welding is involved.
